Bass Brat Takeover

On September 27th, we took over X Bar for the second time in Ze Fuss history, and it definitely won’t be the last! The “Bass Brat” theme was fully embraced by everyone in attendance, evident in the hypnotic sea of headbangers sporting their most outrageous outfits. If there’s one thing the queer community knows how to do, it’s how to slay a theme!

The night started off like any other, by painstakingly taping hundreds of balls of ruffled tulle onto the stage, and praying to god the vision would come to life. Attendees started slowly trickling in, Taylor only minorly panicked about turnout, and all was right with the world.

Despite being there since 5 PM, before I knew it, 10 PM had arrived in the blink of an eye. I found myself lining up for the vendor fashion show—one of my absolute favorite parts of Ze Fuss events. There’s something magical about watching friends live out their Project Runway fantasies, strutting our stuff in curated outfits designed meticulously by our incredible vendors. As we walked across the stage to Capochino’s bass flip of “Vogue” by Noizu, the energy shifted, setting the perfect tone for the rest of the night.

In classic Ze Fuss fashion, the patio area was alive with live painters, fire spinners, and a slew of vendors, all drawing in foot traffic from X Bar regulars who were captivated by the transformation of their beloved hangout into an arts market. It’s always such a blast to host at X Bar—the mix of people is perfectly eclectic. Some were just there out of habit, blissfully unaware of who we were or what we were up to, yet many patrons stopped by our booth, intrigued by the vibrant energy we brought that night.

This event was particularly special as it marked our very first all-queer and femme lineup, a feat we couldn’t have achieved without our amazing collaborator, Matriarch Collective. In a scene where most electronic music producers tend to be straight men, it was an honor to shine a spotlight on our queer and femme friends. Every producer brought their A-game, and I’ve never seen X Bar so packed with people getting down to such fire music. Even the “normies” who just happened to wander in were vibing hard, and we hope they’ll be back for more!

All in all, the night was a stunning celebration of individuality and creativity—a true showcase of local talent and a testament to the power of the queer community. A huge thank you to all our unapologetic brats who joined us in bringing this passion project to life. We can’t wait to do it all again!
